SRPFI Leads Inauguration of Malico WASH Facility
The 3-Door (Male, Female, PWD) comfort room in Malico, San Nicolas, Pangasinan was inaugurated and turned over to the Malico community on February 9, 2023. The facility is part of the community-based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project of the San Roque Power Foundation, Inc. (SRPFI) in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Pangasinan Chapter.

SRPFI and PRC Pangasinan Chapter started the WASH partnership in 2011 providing access to proper hygiene in schools and communities in the municipalities of San Manuel and San Nicolas in Pangasinan and in Itogon, Benguet by promoting proper hygiene, organizing WASH committees, building handwashing facilities, constructing comfort rooms, and improving water supply.
The program also includes trainings on Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation, Operations and Management, First Aid and Basic Life Support, Occupational Safety with CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and Disaster Preparedness.

The WASH program that began long before the emergence of COVID-19 is considered to be a prophetic preparation that served its purpose during the pandemic. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program addressed the needs of front liners and the community by installing portable hand washing facilities in strategic areas such as public spaces and border and health points; and distributing thermal scanners, face masks, alcohol, disinfectants, vitamins, and hygiene kits to 94 public schools in San Manuel, San Nicolas, and Itogon.
